The crew consists of verbalistic pioneers such as Rich D., Jubwa, J. Brown, DJ Polo Royd, Ruby, Lori, and Karen Gerdine. Rich D and J. Brown are formerly of the Members Only Crew of KZSU, Stanford University's radio station. Recognizing true talent, KZSU was among the first stations in the Bay Area to be serendiptious and play hip-hop in 1981, bringing forth hip-hop artists such as Kustmasta Kurt (who produces Kool Keith). The Members Only Crew was one of the first local Bay Area groups to produce a video in 1983, which appeared on Isaac Stevenson's Magic Number Video for their single, "You're Not Down." As you can see, members of the Soul Plantation are not new to the hip-hop scene. Infact, utilizing the resources available such as college radio, the members of Soul Plantation garnered the underground arena, paving the way for many of the Bay areas hip hop artists.
