Tanka Sherchan started to play bamboo flute (Bansuri) and Mahuri Baja (Bee sound instrument) from his childhood. He enlisted in the Gurkha army when he was 18 and during the service he had a few chances to play bamboo flute in some countries i.e Fiji , South korea. New Zealand, England and Belize. He has also been Japan and formed a Nepali Traditional band called "Himali Pariwar"(A family from Himalayan region) and performed several concert representing Nepal by playing a typical Nepali folk music. In 1999 he also fluted in an album called "KHUKURI" which produced by all members of "Himali Pariwar".
