I wrote 15 songs one day and then the sky opened and the title was given, "A Singer Named Shotgun Throat" (actually a title Don Van Vliet generously offered me as the name for a previous record of mine, Moth to Mouth). This title gave rise in my mind to a legend of the “Dirt and Paper" type of song writer of the 20’s depression era. The title attached all the stories of an old, small, midwest American town coming from a street musician (Shotgun Throat) in a small Arkansas town circa 1920-30. Like all true artists and musicians, he was a loner, generally misunderstood and alienated from the rest of this small town community.
