After living through an almost fatal auto crash in 1980, Joe felt that voice of GOD then called him to return to the work he began in his youth. Within the next several years, Penny started to write songs, some of which are included in this album, and states,"While still on crutches, God directed me to sit down one night , late, in the wee hours, and with the paper before me and pen in hand, I really feel that GOD wrote those words", referring to GROWIN' OLD WITHOUT GOD, since so many have been led to change their lives, after hearing the message this song/story contains. Joe began to give his testimony any where he could get people to listen , and during the first year of recovery, he teamed up with Pat Patton, an old friend he found that had given up his worldly ways, also.
