My parents bought me my first pink guitar when I was 14 and I started teaching myself right away. I began writing music when I was 15 with my sister Bonnie. I started doing talent shows at my school and performing at open mic nights in Provo, Utah. I like to think of each song as a journal entry. It's a small snapshot of my life put to music. I try to write music that people can relate to, especially kids my age. I've written about a junior high crush, my parent's divorce, a friend who died--just every day ups and downs. I credit my love of music to my mom who sang to me before I was born and to my dad who played the piano and accompanied her often. They made music a big part of my life singing me to sleep as a child, belting out songs while making meals and sitting at the dinner table, singing along to songs on the radio in the car--music was around us all the time.
