NYC based Unspun was formed in 1998 by Rick Dobbelaer and John Smith, who were members of defunct NYC band Last Tribe. After a few years of knocking around NYC with separate groups, the songwriting duo start demoing new songs together on an 8 track reel to reel at Rick's apt. in Nyack, NY. The demo's turned out so well that a good friend offered to fund the "proper" recording of the music that was to become the album "One." The duo needed a drummer so they called the number on an internet classified add for a drummer Mike Greenfield. Upon hearing the demos, Mike agreed to get involved and a few weeks later Rick, John and Mike were in a NYC rehearsal studio working out the songs. After a few rehearsals, the duo felt strong enough about the music to enter the recording studio.
