This record was originally intended to be a demo, and I guess it still can be seen as that. I just had some good songs that I knew warranted fleshing out and recording at a decent studio. Sometime in late March or early April, a few nights before I was to move out of the house in Wedgewood-Houston, I stumbled into Santa's Pub, Nashville's diviest karaoke bar, where I ran into Benjamin Olson, owner of the 515 Studio in Berry Hill, the world's largest concentration of recording studios. Somehow we got to talking, and I pulled out a tiny ziploc bag full of coins which I openly described as my "life savings." At this, Ben laughed good-naturedly and reached into his own pocket and withdrew a dollar in quarters, which he deposited as a "donation."
