A companion songbook containing sheet music for all songs on this album is available at the whatareyouafraidof.org website (downloadable pdf files or hard copies, single or discounted for 10+ copies). Mary Buckley grew up in a family of seven sisters and a brother, and their parents kept them in line by singing a lot. Mary started writing songs as a child; the album What Are You Afraid of? includes two songs written at age 14. Now older than that, she continues writing songs and sings with the Inland Valley Women's Chorus and Threshold Choir in Ukiah, California. Most of the songs are explorations of emotion and harmony, in a range of styles including a number of rounds that are easy to learn and sing. The songs have traveled around the world before release of the album, and popular demand to hear and learn them resulted in this album being released, along with the companion songbook.
