Twenty years ago I recorded and produced a CD with my long-time favorite bandoneonist, Peter Reil, under our band-name “Puro Apronte”. We named the CD “Cuatro manos con el tango”. We wanted to create the rich sound of a traditional tango orchestra with only four hands and two instruments. Two more CD’s followed, and the challenge of arranging Argentine tangos for fewer musicians got me hooked! In 2001 I premiered with “PianoTango”, playing Argentine tangos that I had especially arranged as solos for this program. No recording was made then, but I realized that after so many years of exploring the different styles of the great tango musicians and orchestras I was curious to find out how my own Argentine tangos would sound as solos.
