Are You Free was written around the time that Jhameel was being asked by major record labels and studios such as Atlantic Records, Sony Records, and Universal Studios to sign with them. The EP is the dirtiest, most rebellious sounding of his music, reflecting his anti-establishment spirit at the time. He saw the level of corruption and malorganization in the labels and studios and how they were exploiting artists for personal gain, so he decided to stay independent and go on his own path.
