"Messages (1)" is an impressive debut from the songwriting team of Jenn O'Hagan and Zachary Manno. On the single, "Speed Limits," and the title track, "Messages (1)," the group explores conflicts and relationships with the world around them while using catchy pop / rock hooks. On tracks such as "Give Up" and "Side Effects," the duo dives into understanding internal conflict, which requires a more overdriven wall-of-sound. Recognizable styles are established by the two, not only as songwriters, but in the expression of their ideas as vocalists. Zach's "chameleon" approach to guitar is apparent in his never ending supply of sounds and stylistic definitions. The duo's strengths and weaknesses compliment the other's as is proven by the meticulously calculated arrangements and lyrical concepts on this album.
